CURRICULUM & OBJECTIVES:

Teacher education in Elementary and Early Childhood is the primary focus of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  Students gain extensive field experiences prior to intern teaching beginning with their first education class.  A strong emphasis is placed on active learning in both degree programs.  Faculty assist students in acquiring a solid theoretical base and provide students with opportunities for practical application of theory within public school settings.  The Elementary Education program prepares students as teachers in grades K-8 and meets all of the requirements leading to an Oklahoma Elementary Education certificate.  The undergraduate Early Childhood program prepares students as teachers in preschool - 3rd grade.
